Dearest reader,
I’m working on a new wall art collection, on a subject that I’m really intreagued by, but don’t necessarily know lots about. How do you feel about astrology? I’ve always been drawn to the predictions and the personal traits depicted by the 12 astrological signs. I think that it was the first accessible form of metaphysics and spirituality for me to latch on to. I enjoyed reading the daily horoscopes on teletext (remember that?!) the monthly predictions in Just17 magazine and the yearly forecasts in my nans readers digest magazines! I just loved the idea of there being something else, something untouchable, something out of this world, in the night sky that can give us hope, excitement and curiosity. Of course always followed the discussion, on who believes or not, if it’s a load of rubbish, if it ever works out like that etc etc. All part of the fun.
Since those days, I think that we’ve opened our minds alot to what is out ‘there’ or inside of us in terms of quantum physics, consciousness, epigenetics etc. We are welcoming new ideas, new human potential that we’ve not adhered to in the past. We are growing, baby step by baby step and becoming more and more open to the possibilities that our personal and collective evolution present to us.
We are only just touching the knowledge and understanding of the stars. I believe the knowledge that we’ve inherited from our anscestors on the science of the sky hold much deeper layers of wisom than we are currently aware of. The more we become accepting to bigger possibilities, the more our understanding deepens.
I believe that our heritage is galactic, that we come from the stars. Even just saying that now feels quite uncomfortable. It feels like back at the beginning when daily horoscopes were seen as woo woo (ok maybe many still see it that way)...but then gradually became accepted as a normal thing to believe in (or not), well you’re not classed as weird any way. I feel that the galactic heritage conversation is one that we will start to have and maybe in 20 years from now, it will be the norm. We will be open to the fact that we are not alone in the galaxy or here on earth.
Back to my astrology project. I’m pondering at what level I go into in terms of research. My goal is to create some beautiful artwork that draws our eyes and hearts further out into the galaxy and to begin asking questions and familiarise ourselves with what is in front of our eyes.
I found that there is a huge amount of greek mythological stories explaining the origins of the constellations. I learned about the Egyptians at school, while the other class learnt about the Greeks, so it’s all very new to me. I find it hard to relate, I don’t know about you? Greek myth storystelling is very abstract if we take it literally.
For example “As Zeus realized that the two animals would forever be the hunter and the hunted, he turned both into constellations and placed them into the sky”. Ok. How can someone/something be turned into a constellation and be placed in the sky? This feels to me like either an error in translation of the original story, a manipulation of the story of many years, or maybe just maybe, there is a way to be turned into a constellation and be placed in the sky?!? Is that what happens on death? Are our bodies turned into a mass of stars and our souls go into the sky to live eternally? I can actually relate to that!
Then we have the personality traits of the signs of the zodiac, maybe alot more relatable, but possibly a little cliché?
I’m searching to find the story of this art project. My simple objective is to portray the wonder and beauty before us. The mystery will remain just that until we manage to peel back more layers of our galactic heritage. However, I’m always searching to add a little more, to offer more food for thought. Let’s see what I come up with.
